NFL: Has an entire division made the playoffs in the same season

By Lee Cleveland - December 16, 2022

Since the 2002 NFL season, the first with first four teams per division, three teams from the same division have made the playoffs in the same year nine times. However, never in NFL history has an entire division made the playoffs.

Watch the next few weeks closely as the NFC East looks poised to send all four of its teams to the postseason this year.

Dallas Cowboys1030

New York Giants751

If Seattle (7-5) loses this afternoon (they are currently down 20-14 to Carolina at halftime), all four NFC East teams would be “in the playoff hunt” as opposed to “on the outside looking in.”

Philadelphia has already clinched a playoff birth while Dallas is on the cusp.

After today’s game, Seattle has a tough remaining schedule as they’ll face the 49ers, Chiefs, Jets, and Rams. Depending on what happens in this afternoon’s game, Seattle will probably have to win at least two of their remaining four games to make the playoffs.

The Commanders play the Giants next week and then close their schedule with the 49ers, Browns, and Cowboys while the Giants conclude with the Vikings, Colts, and Eagles.

Washington seemingly has the edge as they are red hot, sporting a 6-1-1 record in their last eight games. And their only loss in that stretch came via a Vikings field goal with less than a minute to play.

If the Giants and Seahawks are still competing for the last playoff position in the final week of the season, the Giants would have the edge if their opponent that week, the Eagles, has clinched home-field advantage and sits most of its starters.
