Floyd Mayweather, the boxer who defeated Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in the past, recently shared his thoughts on Canelo’s current performance in the ring. While Canelo has faced criticism in Mexico for his choice of opponents, he has gained international recognition as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.
Mayweather acknowledged Canelo’s fine accomplishments and the fact that he has challenged himself by moving up in weight classes and taking on various opponents.
However, Mayweather also pointed out that some people are saying the 32-year-old Canelo doesn’t appear to be performing at the same level as before.
Mayweather recalled his own experience fighting Canelo and emphasized that when he defeated Canelo, Floyd was 36 and older than Canelo is now.
He then posed a hypothetical scenario of Canelo fighting at 36, suggesting that Alvarez’s performance at that age would be a far cry from Floyd’s at the same age.
He also mentioned that when he fought Canelo, the latter was 23 years old and had 43 fights under his belt, yet folks expressed concerns about his experience at that time.
In summary, Mayweather recognized Canelo’s skills and achievements but also discussed the perception that Canelo might not be performing at the same level as before, and is slowing down much sooner than Floyd did.
