Dallas Cowboys kicker Brett Maher missed his only extra-point opportunity against Washington last week and then proceeded to shank his first four tonight before connecting on his final attempt.
Yes, he missed five in a row in all.
Fortunately for Dallas, tonight’s four misses weren’t a factor as they cruised to a 31-14 win over the Tampa Bay Buccanneers in the first round of the NFC Playoffs.
Despite his struggles of late, Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy seems to be sticking with Maher for their divisional-round playoff game against the 49ers on Sunday.
“We need to get him ready to go (for San Francisco),” McCarthy said, via NBCDWF. “We need him. He’s been super clutch for us all year.”
Maher also seems to have the support of his teammates.
Maher was impressive during the regular season, making 91 percent of his field goals while going 50 for 53 on extra points. Moreover, he’s the only kicker in NFL history to connect on four field goals of 60 yards or longer.
