Crawford vs Benavidez odds: Underdog gets no loveWritten by Leroy Cleveland
WBO welterweight champion and top 10 pound-for-pound fighter Terence Crawford (33-0, 24 KO) will face undefeated 26-year-old Jose Benavidez Jr. (26-0, 17 KO) in Omaha on October 13.
Benavidez won the interim WBA Super Lightweight strap after TKOing Jorge Paez Jr. but has never won a legitimate world title.
As a result of that and Jose's lack of name recognition, this fight is getting little buzz so don't expect to hear much about it until a day or two prior to the event.
Crawford vs Benavidez odds
Are you ready for this?
Bovada has Benavidez slated as a +750 underdog while the champion is a blistering -1400 favorite. Hence, a successful $1,400 wager on Crawford would yield $100 while a successful $100 bet on Benavidez would pay out $750.
Barring a significant announcement, don't expect the needle to move much over the next 13 days.
So, who is Jose Benavidez Jr. (26-0, 17 KO)?
Promoted by Top Rank, like Crawford, the 26 year old Benavidez is trained by legendary mentor Freddie Roach and claims an amateur record of 120-5.
Aside from Paez Jr, Jose doesn't have any 'name' opponents on his resume but is fresh off a KO win over rising upstart Frank Rojas (then 21-0-1, 21 KO) in a WBA welterweight title eliminator last June. In fact, he needed only 1:24 to dispatch his foe with... a body shot.
“I worked hard for this fight, so I didn’t go in there trying to knock the guy out right away,” Benavidez told BoxingScene.com. “But the knockout came. I caught him with some clean shots and he couldn’t get back up.
“I thought I looked good enough. He was a guy who was 22-0, with 21 knockouts. I had a great camp, and the result showed that.”
The freakishly-skilled Crawford is coming off a spectacular 9th Round KO win over a well-prepared Jeff Horn who gave a courageous effort.
