Horn vs Corcoran odds: Just the tonic for Aussie team

Written by

Newly-crowned welterweight champion Jeff Horn (17-0-1, 11 KOs) will defend his WBO belt against England's Gary Corcoran (17-1, 7 KOs) in Brisbane on December 13.

Horn, of course, upset fight legend Manny Pacquiao last summer and hopes to face PacMan in a high-profile rematch next year.

Given the Aussie doesn't have to face a mandatory contender straight away, the onus was on his team to find a safe opponent with a fine record. Rest-assured, with a possible Pacquiao superfight or a big-money showdown with Terence Crawford on the horizon, Team Horn didn't want to taking any chances.

Horn vs Corcoran odds
Just as Team Horn desired, it found an opponent who'll be a huge underdog as Horn is a 7 to 1 favorite to defeat Corcoran, according to PaddyPower and betfair.

Why Corcoran?
Not only is Horn a huge favorite to defeat Corcoran, his resume is limited and he was knocked out by the unknown Liam Williams last year. Moreover, Gary hails from the boxing crazed UK so an impressive win would undoubtedly enhance Horn's brand in an important market.

He's the perfect 'opponent' for Jeff.

(As of 9/1/17)

1 Manny Pacquiao PHI
2 Lucas Matthysse ARG
3 Bradley Skeete UK
4 Egidijus Kavaliauskas LIT
5 Konstantin Ponomarev RUS
6 Taras Shelestyuk UKR
7 Giovanni Santillan USA
8 Adrian Luciano Veron ARG
9 Jessie Vargas USA
10 Ray Robinson USA
11 Gary Corcoran UK
12 Stephen Danyo
13 Carlos Ocampo MEX
14 Qudratillo Abduguharov UZB
15 Custio Clayton CAN

.... So while Jeff called out the likes of Amir Khan, Terence Crawford and Errol Spence, there was zero chance his team would even consider them as options.

“Corcoran is 26, so he’s three years younger than me — he’s very fit, strong and hungry,’’ Horn said via

“He’s a dangerous guy. I know what it’s like to be a determined underdog just like he is going into this fight. This is his golden opportunity to do what I did against Pacquiao but there are millions of dollars on offer for me with big fights in 2018 so I can’t let this guy come to my home town and wreck all my good work.’’

Should Horn be victorious, he'll face Manny Pacquiao or Terence Crawford in March or April.
