Joshua vs Molina time in U.S: Will Americans tune in?

Written by

Saturday's IBF heavyweight title bout will have tremendous significance for one reason.

Anthony Joshua, should he win, will likely face former lineal heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in April, in what would be one of the biggest heavyweight showdowns ever.

So, who cares about the odds?

Anthony Joshua vs Eric Molina may be the last hurdle for a fight of epic proportions. It's a primetime event.

... Ot at least should be.

While fans in the United Kingdom will be watching this bout live and with great anticipation, will Americans in the U.S. be glued to their sets Saturday afternoon?

Americans are accustomed to watching big fights at night but, stateside, Joshua vs Molina will be broadcast live by Showtime at 5:30PM ET.

And even for American fans who are aware of the start time, will college football and Christmas shopping carry the evening? Will they underestimate this fight's significance?

For the health of boxing in the U.S., let's hope American fight fans take time to briefly set aside college football and Christmas shopping to be a part of what may be a history-making moment.

Joshua may be the best heavyweight in the world.
