Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather: PacMan vs Adrien Broner would be bigger?

Written by

Last week, former four division titlist Adrien "The Problem" Broner was conditionally released from incarceration on a "contempt of court" charge, which put him in the stony lonesome for thirty consecutive days. Although the seemingly troubled prizefighter will return to court on September 21, Broner is looking to score another major fight, possibly in October.

Although his opponent of choice is currently committed to a match-up against current WBO Welterweight champion Jessie Vargas on November 5, the "Cincinnati Kid" eventually wants to match skills with the Senator from the Philippines, Manny Pacquiao.

The 27 year old fighter not only believes he would defeat the future Hall of Famer, but seems genuinely convinced he would stop Manny within the distance.

"I'd f*** Pacquiao up," Broner stated to ESNews. "I would have a big possibility of stopping Pacquiao if we fought. I can hit with both hands, I can match his speed, and I'm a sharper puncher than Pacquiao, if you ask me."

"And in the mindset I'm in now, I feel that anyone I get in the ring with, I'm going to do some damage to."

Despite wanting a match-up against Pacquiao more than any other proposed fight currently, Adrien admitted to turning down an opportunity to face the Pacman earlier this year for a reported purse of $4 million. "The Problem" explained why there was a problem during fight term negotiations.

"It was very close," admits AB. "I was actually talking to Pacquiao's manager. He was calling me, and I was calling him. But their numbers weren't right. I know my worth. I know how people would be attracted to the fight once it's made."

"Because a fight (with Pacquiao) right now would probably do better than Floyd Mayweather and Pacquiao's fight at this point."

The first historic bout or the suggested rematch?

Considering how unpopular the rivalry is between Mayweather and Pacquiao is in its current state, one would have to agree with AB that a fresh, unprecedented match-up between Adrien and Manny would more than likely incite more curiosity among paying customers than a rehashed and over-hyped pairing between Floyd and the Pacman.

But better numbers than the most lucrative event in the history of the sport?

The highly anticipated yet horribly disappointing meeting between Money May and Senator Pacquiao last May drew an unprecedented PPV audience of 4.4 million PPV buys and grossed over $400 million in revenue.

Would the paying customers, both die-hard and mainstream sports fans, be that excited about a potential bout between Adrien Broner and Manny Pacquiao?

The disenchanted prizefighter from Cincy seems to think so.

"No disrespect to any fighter out there, but right now I'm the hottest fighter in boxing," claims Adrien Broner. "From what I've been seeing, boxing needs me. Just like boxing needs (Conor) McGregor."

Keep dreaming, AB…hopefully someday you'll be able to wake up and make the most of your reality.
