Golovkin vs Wade Undercard Featuring Best Pound-for-Pound Fighter?Written by Leroy Cleveland
Román González, (44-0, 38 KOs) the current WBC and The RING Magazine flyweight champion, returns April 23 on the Gennady Golovkin vs Dominic Wade undercard in the Los Angeles area.
Dubbed "Chocolatito," the NIcaraguan is considered the top fighter in the world, pound-for-pound, by RING Magazine and ESPN.
Of course, some insist the event's main attraction, Golovkin, deserves that rank.
"Right now I do not know who I will be fighting, but my next fight is confirmed for April 23 in Los Angeles," Gonzalez said after a news conference in Managua (via BoxingScene)
Most recent fight: TKO Brian Viloria, Oct 2015
"No matter who the opponent will be, we will prepare with everything for this defense. On March 6 we are going to Costa Rica to focus for this fight as we did for the previous one with Brian Viloria, because doing that did well for us," Gonzalez said.
A flyweight with a mind-numbing 86 percent knockouts-to-fights ratio, González hopes to face Mexico's Juan Francisco "Gallo" Estrada (33-2, 24 KO), owner of the WBA and WBO flyweight world titles, by year's end.
Those who plan to attend Golovkin vs Wade or watch from home are in for a real treat.
