Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao: Arum unleashes riveting statements about Floyd's alleged demands, obsession and reluctance to fight

Written by
While promoting the rubber match between Brandon Rios and Mike Alvarado in Denver, Colorado this week, CEO of Top Rank, Inc., Bob Arum, refuted outspoken condition coach Alex Ariza's claims that Arum was being less than truthful to the boxing media regarding the current status of the ongoing Mayweather/Pacquiao negotiations.
"Ariza isn't Mayweather's adviser and isn't involved with the negotiations, so he really doesn't know how the negotiations have progressed," stated the Hall of Fame promoter various media members in the Mile High city.

"He doesn't want to know that Pacquiao and Top Rank have agreed to everything, and as far as we're concerned, it's a done deal."

"And it wasn't easy, because they moved the percentages on us, and they moved various elements of the deal, like who would be announced as the champion and who would come in second...that kind of stuff."

"They wanted the fight to be dual promoted by Mayweather Promotions and Top Rank Promotions, when they haven't promoted anything, but I said 'fine'."

"If that's what it'll take, then it's okay with me. We agreed and conceded to all of those points."

"I have emails that I can show you as recent as this morning, that everybody involved, whether it's the head of CBS, Les Moonves, who's been great throughout this, or Richard Plepler, the head of HBO, want that fight to happen. So all of the adults involved are doing everything they can to make this fight a reality."

"Even Al Haymon is on board."

After attending the Hollywood premier of the critically acclaimed "Manny" documentary, Ariza publicly slammed Arum earlier this week, claiming the Hall of Fame promoter was solely responsible for the clamored super fight not taking place.

"It's not going to happen," Ariza told various media members in attendance. "Let's not kid ourselves."

"Manny's fighting Jessie Vargas, and we're fighting someone else on May second. Then in November, it'll be Manny versus Mikey Garcia...and then get used to Mikey Garcia 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6...and then whatever."

"But as long as Bob Arum is in the picture, you're not going to see this fight."

According to the 83 year old fight promoter, the renowned conditioning expert's comments are agenda driven.

“We have done everything in our power to get this thing [Mayweather vs Pacquiao] done," stated Top Rank CEO Bob Arum earlier this week.

"And it is done."

"They’re simply looking for a scapegoat."

Per the Top Rank CEO, Mayweather stands to make up to $150 million dollars if he signs the contract to face Pacquiao this year. But according to the five decade fight promoter, it’s not about the money for the athlete most notably recognized as “Money” Mayweather.

“It’s not about the money,” professes Bob Arum.

“It’s about his obsession with not losing. He knows that not fighting Pacquiao will taint his legacy. He’s not stupid. But he is afraid to lose.”

“I know this because I promoted him for over ten years. He doesn’t like to fight southpaws, and certainly not fast southpaws who can punch like Manny Pacquiao."

"The worst possible opponent that he can face at this time is Manny Pacquiao.”

“Pacquiao knows that, and Mayweather knows that.”

Although Arum believes that Mayweather, and only Mayweather, is holding the biggest fight in boxing hostage at the current time, the famed promoter does remain optimistic that the real bosses of boxing can help this clamored match-up come to fruition.

“I think people can really help make this fight a reality,” proclaims Bob Arum. “They can get on the internet, and they can besiege Mayweather with just these words: ‘sign the contract’. And if Mayweather gets an uprising of millions of fans who want to see this fight, I think even he will have to retreat from this nonsense and agree to the fight.”
