Early on the morning of January 14, fight legend and Golden Boy Promotions founder Oscar De La Hoya tweeted:

"I get sick to my stomach that the top fighters today don't fight the best. Wouldn't be surprised if maywetherfights cotto. #Canelo5Mayo"

Oscar, of course, promotes Mexican fighting sensation Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.

So what does the above tweet mean?

Is De La Hoya's message ominous?

Is Cotto vs Canelo in jeopardy of not of not happening? ... Moreover, is Mayweather vs Pacquiao in some sort of danger?

Regarding the former, it's no secret the two sides haven't been agreeable as negotiations for Cotto vs Canelo have turned into quite an ordeal.

Will this match-up, which was believed to be in the advanced stage of negotiations six weeks ago, fizzle?

"We are at a difficult stage in negotiations," admitted 24 year Canelo Alvarez in early December.

"I love fighting in Las Vegas, where most of the Cinco de Mayo event dates are held. But another venue could be Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. We're looking at several options."

"But most importantly, this fight has to be a 50/50 split."

"Although Cotto is traditionally difficult to negotiate with, we're confident a deal will be reached within the next few weeks."
