Gennady Golovkin vs Daniel Geale 2? The fighters have met before

Written by
Tonight, when WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, perhaps the most avoided middleweight in the world, faces Daniel Geale on HBO it will not be first time they will have exchanged blows in the ring.
They fought once before in the amateurs in Osaka, Japan during the 2001 East Asian Games and Geale insists their 2001 scrap is history and it’ll be much different when they meet tonight.

“It was at the East Asian Games in Japan and he beat me on points,” Geale recollects. “To be honest I fought like crap I think he got me 15-3, so it was just a fight to forget for me.”

Will things be different tonight?

Golovkin is a pulverizing puncher who possesses sublime boxing skills, as his 2004 Olympic silver medal proves.

But one of GGG’s biggest criticisms is that he fights less-than-stellar opposition. And while he doesn’t have the best resume, few dare to step in to the ring with Golovkin so it’s difficult to build one.

In every outing Golovkin has looked spectacular vanquishing foes with his tremendous punching power disposing of them in brutal fashion.

I’m very happy to be fighting Daniel Geale, stated Golovkin. “I’ve known him for many years and this will be a terrific fight for the fans. Saturday, July 26th will be a great night at Madison Square Garden.”
