Marquez vs Alvarado: Does winner get the revitalised Manny Pacquiao?

Written by
Mike Alvarado (34-2 23KOs) and Juan Manuel Marquez (55-7-1 40KOs) will meet tonight in what is sure to be an action-packed battle.
Both Marquez and Alvarado are looking to erase the demons of their previous performances and both are eager to take the spoils of victory in what will be a fight for redemption.

Moreover, the winner may clinch a big money bout against superstar Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2 38 KOs), one of the biggest names in pro sports.

Since Juan Manuel Marquez brutally knocked out his old nemesis, Manny Pacquiao, the man they call 'Dinamita' finally had that career-defining win on his record he craved. However, after his close decision loss to Tim Bradley in October, Marquez was again left searching for the the public's accolades following his triumph of PacMan - a win which may seem like a distant memory to him today.

Nevertheless, Juan Manuel Marquez will be looking for a convincing win against Alvarado to again catapult him back to the upper echelon of the 147lb division and possibly enable him to partake in another high money PPV bout in the near future.

... But Mike Alvarado will be entering the ring with a similar agenda.

The man from the 'Mile High' city has also had mixed fortunes over the past eighteen months. After avenging a loss to Brandon Rios (then 31-0-1) in a thrilling rematch back in March 2013 for the interim WBO light welterweight title, Alvarado becAme a candidate for a big money showdown with Manny Pacquiao. However, the Filipino superstar, following his loss to Marquez, opted to fight and subsequently outclass the man Alvarado beat, Brandon Rios, engineering a one-sided drubbing of his last November.

Several weeks prior to Pacquiao vs Rios, Alvarado faced the dangerous 'Siberian Rocky' Ruslan Provodnikov (then 22-2) in hopes that a solid win over the feared Russian would lift his stature and set-up a high-stakes, high-money fight against one of the mainstream stars of boxing; but unfortunately it ended up a 'baptism by fire' as Provodnikov pummelled Alvarado from start to finish and forced him to quit on his stool at the end of the 9th. The loss signaled the end of the Denver native's reign as interim WBO light welterweight champion.

Even though Juan Manuel Marquez knocked Manny Pacquiao out almost eighteen months ago, it seems as though all roads lead back to 'the Pacman' for Marquez if the fighter known as 'Dinamita' has his hand raised and the end of tonight's fight.

Mike Alvarado is also looking to follow the same path with a win against the Mexican legend as 'Mile High Mike' feels he missed out on the opportunity to face one of the most popular athletes in all of sports.

Marquez vs Alvarado... When the bell sounds tonight, the pair will no doubt go toe-to-toe in what may be a Fight of the Year candidate.

How much does each man have following recent defeats?

Manny Pacquiao will undoubtedly be an interested spectator. Perhaps he will be hoping, wishing and praying Alvarado triumphs?

I don't think 'Pacman' is enthusiastic about Pacquiao vs Marquez 5.

Are you?
