Rosado vs Charlo: A must-win for both fighters

Written by
No one can say Gabriel Rosado (21-7 13 KOs) has ducked anyone or takes easy fights to pad his record.
Time after time Rosado faces the best possible opponent presented to him.

Tonight on the undercard of Peterson vs Jean, Rosado will take on top prospect Jermell Charlo (22-0 11 KOs) with the winner possibly getting a title shot.

Time: 9 pm ET/PT
Broadcast: Showtime (U.S.); BoxNation (U.K; 1:30 GMT)

Aside from a possible title shot, Rosado will be looking to get back to his winning ways after suffering two failed attempts at a middleweight title and a controversial loss that was later changed to a No Contest.

After becoming the mandatory for the IBF junior middleweight title, Rosado was offered a crack at WBA middleweight kingpin Gennady Golovkin. And despite a resilient effort, Rosado was stopped in Round 7.

In his next fight, Rosado took on top Money Team ‘TMT’ middleweight prospect J'Leon Love. That fight was, initially, awarded to Love via a split decision although many viewers thought Rosado had done enough to win. After J'Leon Love subsequently failed the post-fight drug test, the result was ruled a No Contest.

Rosado's most recent fight against WBO Middleweight Champion Peter Quillin also ended in controversy. With Rosado seemingly coming on strong, the doctor halted the bout in Round 10, soon after Gabriel suffered a cut on his left eyelid.

Tonight’s fight with Charlo is a must-win for Rosado if he wants to stay relevant.

Having recently fought several times as a full-fledged middleweight, will the move back down to Jr middleweight hinder or help Rosado’s performance?

Charlo stated in a recent interview that body work will be key in this fight because Rosado is coming down from middleweight and will presumably be drained and weak.

Rosado, on the other hand, has stated that he will be the bigger, stronger fighter and that he can still make the Jr middleweight limit without issues.

In order for Charlo to break out and transition from prospect to contender and possibly a future star, this bout is a must-win for him as well.

“Everything I'm doing in my life is to be victorious and dominate Gabriel Rosado," insisted Charlo.
