HBO Boxing co-main event in jeopardy, heavyweight sent back to Poland

Polish heavyweight contender Artur Szpilka (16-0, 12KOs) was haulted at Chicago airport by Homeland Security and subsequently sent back to Poland.

According to BoxingScene, he has 48 hours to get additional entry documents.

Szpilka, 24, is scheduled to face Bryant Jennings (17-0, 9 KO) on the Mikey Garcia vs. Juan Carlos Burgos card January 25th on HBO.

A southpaw, Szpilka turned pro in 2008 and, after missing out on the 2008 Olympics, has defeated formidable opponents Brian Minto, Mike Mollo and Jameel McCline.

Ironically, he last fought in Chicago five months ago against Mike Mollo in a bout televised on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights. In that fight, Szpilka was floored in the third but battled back to TKO Mollo in Round 5.

Szpilka, a hot heavyweight prospect, is ranked second in the division among Polish fighters by BoxRec and No. 32 internationally by the same website.
