Gennady Golovkin: Opponent confirmed for February

Written by
Gennady Golovkin (28-0-0 25 KOs) will make his 2014 debut against Osumanu Adama (22-3-0 16 KOs) on February 1st in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
Golovkin's WBA and IBO titles will be on the line.

And although it will be a championship bout, HBO Boxing has chosen not to showcase the event.

Golovkin's most recent match against Curtis Stevens, which aired live on HBO last month, was seen by an estimated 1.4 million viewers.

So why is HBO not interested in Golovkin vs Adama?

Perhaps HBO believes it'll be a mismatch and the challenger, Adama, is not HBO-worthy?

Golovkin fought four times in 2013 and intends to stay active and sharp by fighting four times next year as well.

"I'm very happy to return to Monte Carlo and excited to face Adama."

"I know he's a very tough opponent and I'm looking forward to putting on another great performance for the fans in Monte Carlo and those watching around the world," said Golovkin about his return to Monte Carlo.

Golovkin fought in Monte Carlo once before, defeating Nobuhiro Ishida (25-9-2, 10 KO's) last March via a vicious 3rd round knockout.
