James Toney: I would have beaten Calzaghe and Lennox

Written by
Never at a loss for words, future hall of famer James "Lights Out" Toney (74-8-3, 2NC, 45 KO) insists he would have defeated Joe Calzaghe at super middleweight and Lennox Lewis at heavyweight.
In a recent interview with the famed Elle Seckbach of ESnews, Toney stated, "I love the British people but I don't like your fighters."

"They suck," added the three-division world champion.

After Seckbach mentioned Joe Calzaghe (46-0, 32 KO) to challenge Toney's viewpoint, Toney, glaring into the camera, uttered, "While I was super middleweight champion, I would have destroyed you [Calzaghe]."

"I would have chewed you up and spit you out like chewing gum."

Toney did give Calzaghe credit for defeating worthy opponents but stopped short of saying the Brit would have been a formidable challenge.

When asked what would have happened in a hypothetical Lennox Lewis vs James Toney match-up, the former champ quipped, "Easy win for me."

Insisting Lewis (44-2-1, 32 KO) would have been scared from the start, Toney shuffled into a boxing stance and mocked the Brit's style, comparing it to that of the Klitschkos.

Could Toney, at 5'10", defeated a prime Lennox Lewis who was 6'5?"

Earlier in the interview, Toney picked Floyd Mayweather to defeat Amir Khan and labelled the potential bout a "mis-match."

"Go get some money baby boy [Mayweather]. Go ahead and chalk-up another easy win."

In April, Lucas Browne (16-0, 14 KOs) soundly defeated the-then 44 year old James Toney in Melbourne, Australia in what might have been the latter's swan song.

Known for his legendary 'old-school' style and controversial statements, Toney raised a few eyebrows last year when he told EsNews that Julio Cesar Chavez Sr and Jr, and Canelo Alvarez were overrated and inferior to Mexican greats of the past such as Salvador Sanchez.
