How popular is the iconic Filipino Slugger? Over the last seven days, the search query 'manny pacquiao' has been the second hottest term in Google worldwide according to Google Trends (as of 11pm EST, December 10, 2012)
Google Trends is a public web facility of Google Inc. that shows, in Google's search engine, how often a particular search-term is entered relative to the total search-volume across various regions of the world, and in various languages.

In essence, Google Trends shows how new events affect search popularity.

Over the last seven days, December 4-10, 2012, the query 'manny pacquiao' is the second hottest search term on the Internet worldwide in Goggle, the world's largest and most respected search engine.

On Saturday, fight legends Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez is engaged in their fourth epic showdown - a fight for the ages.

Juan Manuel Marquez landed a monstrous right hand that sent Manny Pacquiao to the canvas face first in Round 6. It marked the first KO defeat for Manny Pacquiao in 13 years and was, in the eyes of many,  his first legitimate loss in 8 years.

What's the most serached query, Dec 4-10?

The most serached query in Google the last seven days is 'jenny rivera.'

Jenny Dolores Rivera Saavedra, better known as Jenni Rivera, was a Mexican-American singer who was tragically killed in a plane crash near Iturbide, Nuevo León, México, on December 9, 2012.

She began recording in 1992 and her tenth studio album, Jenni (2008), became her first number-one album in the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart in the United States.

In 2010, she appeared in and produced the reality TV show Jenni Rivera Presents: Chiquis & Raq-C. She also appeared in and produced I Love Jenni starting in 2011 and Chiquis 'n Control in 2012. Ms. Rivera was also spokeswoman for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

Pacquiao vs Marquez 4 Crashes FightSaga

Midway through the first Pacquiao vs Marquez IV undercard bout, the boxing website FightSaga crashed due to the tremendous load put on its server as a result of the high traffic generated by several Pacquiao vs Marquez articles.

Astonished by the freakishly high volume of traffic, developers tried earnestly to get the site back online before informing the site's owner there was no 'immediate' solution. The few times they were able to resuscitate the site, it would crash less than 30 seconds later.

Its presumed a few other major boxing websites may have experienced similar issues.

Pacquiao vs Bradley, June 9, 2012

Trending high in Google is nothing new for the eight-division world champion. In June (for Pacquiao vs Bradley), the query 'pacquiao' finished as the 9th highest trending sports-related term overall and 4th highest sport-related entity despite the fact Tim Bradley was an unknown quantity to the casual fan.

And in the U.S., the host nation for Pacquiao vs Bradley, interest in the bout was even stronger. During the same time period, two of the country's top ten trending sports-related queries related to Manny Pacquiao.

In addition, 'pacquiao vs bradley' finished above 'nba finals' and the query 'pacquiao' trended higher than 'lebron james' and 'miami heat' in the month of June 2012.
Are the Filipinos are Generating Most of the Searches?

Probably not. Its unclear if Pacquiao's homeland of the Philippines is even included in the sampling as Google does not showcase data from all 180+ nations and search data from the Philippines cannot be extracted via Google's tool.

Manny Pacquiao - The World's Most Popular Athlete?

As FightSaga reported in January, according to Google's annual Zeitgeist, Manny Pacquiao was Google's most queried athlete in the United States in 2011. And incidentally, Pacquiao's nemesis, Floyd Mayweather, took part in Google's most searched sports event in the United States during the same year, Mayweather vs Ortiz.

It's not known whether Manny Pacquiao was or currently is the world's most popular athlete - But based on Google searches in roughly 40 countries, including the US., a strong case can be made on his behalf.

Is there another active athlete who generates as much interest "internationally" as Manny Pacquiao?
