Mormeck aims to become the third former cruiserweight champion to get a heavyweight title shot this year.

Heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (56-3,49 KO) appears to be ready to confirm Jean Marc Mormeck as his next opponent. The bout is tentatively set for December 10 in Germany and Klitschko's WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO and Ring Magazine titles will be on the line.

Jean-Marc Mormeck (36-4, 22 KO's), a French pro of Antillean descent and a former unified world cruiserweight champion, captured the WBA cruiserweight title by a 9th round technical knockout win over Virgil Hill on in 2002. Following three defenses with wins over Dale Brown, Alexander Gurova and Virgil Hill again, he added the WBC cruiserweight crown to his collection in 2005 after winning a unanimous decision over "Big Truck" Wayne Braithwaite. Then, after losing his WBA and WBC cruiserweight titles to O'Neil Bell via knockout in 2006, he would regain his titles by winning a unanimous against Bell in their rematch in 2007.

In the first defense of his second title reign, Mormeck again lost his WBA and WBC titles as he was bested by the United Kingdom's David Haye in November 2007.

On December 17, 2009, Mormeck made his return to the ring, fighting for the first time as a heavyweight, against Vinny Maddalone. Mormeck outpointed the veteran heavyweight over 8 rounds. He then fought highly-ranked Uzbek heavyweight Timur Ibragimov on December 2, 2010, at Halle Carpentier, Paris. Mormeck started slowly but dominated the middle rounds to win a split decision (116-112, 116-111, 113-115).

The 5′ 11½″ (181 cm) Mormeck will be the first fighter to challenge Klitschko since this past July when Wladimir scored a one-sided twelve round unanimous decision over then WBA champion David Haye in a disappointing fight which many say fell far short of expectations.

Mormeck will become the third cruiserweight, behind David Haye and Tomasz Adamek, to get a shot at a major heavyweight title this year.
