Pacquiao vs Rios PPV price in the U.S, fight time

Boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao will face fast-rising sensation Brandon Rios in Macau, China this weekend. The bout will be broadcast live on pay-per-view (PPV) and for the second time in as many bouts, Americans will pay $59.99 to view a Pacquiao fight.

Add $10 for the high definition (HD) version.

Prior to last December, Pacquiao bouts were a bit cheaper for normal and HD options.

So what gives?

At $59.95 per buy, Pacquiao vs Marquez 4 in December 2012 generated upwards of $70 million in revenue, matching the PPV earnings of Pacquiao vs Marquez 3 eleven months prior despite generating roughly 300,000 fewer sales.

The difference?

By charging and additional $5 for last December's bout, any attrition in earnings resulting from reduced purchases was mitigated if not entirely buffered.

Moreover, the standard viewing price for Mayweather vs Canelo in September, which eclipsed two million PPV buys, was even pricier than this Saturday's showdown, proving fans will pay higher rates if intrigued by the fight card.

Incidentally, Mayweather vs Canelo cost Americans $69.99 for the standard version and $79.99 HD.

Top Rank, the event's promotional entity, is relying on hardcore fans who won't be able to resist seeing Manny Pacquiao, regardless of price.

Warning: Some cable poviders may attempt to trick you by prominently advertising $69.99 as the set price. Only pay that amount if you want the HD version. Find the standard viewing option if you'd prefer to spend $59.99.

How much will it cost in China?
There have been conflicting reports about the PPV fee in China. Some are reporting the bout is free in the Mainland while others in the media insist the Chinese will have to pay the U.S. equivalent of $4 or $5 to access it.

Will the location impact viewing time in the States?
Although Pacquiao vs Rios will take place in Macao, China instead of Las Vegas, everything is being done on U.S. time. As a result, the event will be staged sometime Sunday morning there.

As usual, the broadcast will start Saturday at 9 PM ET stateside. Actual fight time for the main event will likely be closer to 11am ET.
