Miguel Cotto vs Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin? Bring 'em on!

With Miguel Cotto’s highly anticipated return to the squared circle only a few days away, head trainer Freddie Roach likes what he sees from his super star pupil.

Although the Puerto Rican native has been out of the professional ring for almost an entire year, the Hall of Fame fight coach expects a sensational performance this Saturday night.

“He’s right where I want him to be,” stated the heralded boxing coach to FightHub TV during a recent press event. “He never got too far above 160 pounds between fights, even during his time away from the gym. He’s completely dedicated to his career in the ring, and I think everyone will be impressed.”

And while the great majority of the boxing community were hoping to see Canelo vs. Cotto materialize earlier this year, Freddie believes a fight with Daniel Geale in the interim could prove to be a blessing in disguise.

“We want Canelo Alvarez. But after a year away from the ring, we needed a fight to get the rust off. The gym is the gym, and a fight is a fight. Those are two totally different things. I know Geale is a tough guy, he’s a former world champion and that’s why I picked him. I’m sure he’ll be able to give us some rounds on Saturday night.”

When asked about his fighter’s immediate future in the fight game, Roach seemed to have his entire path of progress mapped out…barring a disappointing and unexpected outcome, of course.

“Canelo looked really good in his fight, and I hope we can get him in the ring later this year, but we have to win against Daniel Geale first. "

"Miguel is focused on Geale on June 6, and Canelo Alvarez later this year,” claims the world renowned fight trainer.

“The winner of that fight will probably face Gennady Golovkin next year…after that, Cotto will probably call it a day.”

Although many fight fans believe Cotto to have a genuine fear of stepping in the ring with the biggest puncher in Middleweight division, WBA Champion Gennady Golovkin, Roach claims the popular sentiment couldn’t be any further from the truth.

“We’re the champion of the world. We should be able to face anybody in the world, and we will.”
