Although Floyd Mayweather Jr. and most casual observers of the sport have cited Manny Pacquiao's most recent effort as a massive ratings failure, figures coming out of China would argue otherwise.

According to Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum, the "Manny Pacquiao vs. Chris Algieri" broadcast from Macau, China were viewed by 48 million homes throughout the People's Republic.

Even in a country that boasts a gross population of 1.35 billion, the Top Rank CEO is still ecstatic over the results.

"It's a huge success," Bob Arum stated during an interview with the Telegraph UK. "Forty-eight million homes is huge audience. Boxing is becoming a major sport in China. But I want to build the audience as much as possible before even thinking about launching a pay-per-view."

Considering that the high cost of PPV in America and increased number of events seemed to stifle the US marketplace in 2014, with every major boxing PPV performing well under projected figures this year, an additional market for the global sport would be a welcomed commodity for Top Rank, Inc.

A 48 million household share is the equivalent of almost double the population in the UK watching a prizefight.

To put the figures in its appropriate perspective for the American television audience, the 2014 SuperBowl attracted over 108.7 million viewers and was viewed in 53 million homes.

It will be interesting to see if Bob and company use these figures at the bargaining table during the ongoing Mayweather/Pacquiao negotiations. Will this data regarding Pacquiao's most recent effort make a difference when negotiating the 2015 super fight with Floyd Mayweather?

And will the Chinese PPV market be established in time for a massive Mayweather/Pacquiao super fight?
