Nonito Donaire: Sen. Pacquiao is a great guy but I wouldn't vote for him, now

While eight division world champion and Philippines Senator Manny Pacquiao is busy in his homeland pulling double duty as a public servant and a prizefighter, four division world titlist Nonito Donaire is in America promoting the upcoming event on November 5, featuring Pacquiao vs. Vargas in the main event of the evening.

Despite having a great amount of respect for the legendary Pacman as a fighter and as a professional, "The Filipino Flash" had some interesting things to say about whether or not he would vote for Sen. Pacquiao if he were to eventually run for President of the Philippines.

"Honestly, I probably wouldn't," Nontio Donaire told FightHype.com on Tuesday.

"It depends on how he would be. In order for someone to become President, you have to take the time to get the word of the people. He hasn't presented himself well as a politician. He's presented himself as a celebrity."

"For one, he's been the most absent of anyone in Congress, and you have to be true to your word. I love Manny, and he's a great friend of mine. But I'm looking at it from a man who wants the country to be better."

"In order for him to get my vote, he has to commit."

The hard working Senator realizes his shortcomings as a Representative of the Sarangani Province, only attending the third and final regular session of the 16th Congress once in 2016. The popular, basketball playing Congressman racked up a total of 22 absences during the session, 16 without notice.

But since being elected to the Philippines Senate in May, the legendary prizefighter has rededicated himself to his appointed position, purposely scheduling his fight with current WBO Welterweight champion Jessie Vargas during the three-week recess period between Congressional sessions.

Nonito recognizes his friend's struggle and hopes the honorable Senator can be successful in juggling both very demanding careers.

"Manny Pacquiao has passion. If he can apply that to his position, than he can be a great President."

"It's no different than Manny inside the ring. Are we going to see a version of Pacquiao who's just going to go with the flow, or are we going to see the Manny who is going to go out and take everything from everybody."

"He needs to create a word people can trust, and to be there for the people. To take the time to make it happen. Because we already know he's a great guy and he has the passion. If he can do that, then I can say that he's got my vote."

Nonito is slated to face undefeated and hard punching Jesse Magdaleno on Top Rank's November 5 PPV. The 2012 "Fighter of the Year" will defend his WBO Super Bantamweight championship in the scheduled twelve round co-main event on the Pacquiao vs Vargas undercard.
