Joshua vs Usyk prediction: Kovalev's shockerHot
While most are giving Joshua the edge, former light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev is heavily backing the challenger to unseat the popular Brit.
“Usyk will defeat Joshua, 10,000%. Place your bets,” the Russian wrote in the comments under one of the publications of the DAZN account on Instagram per a report by Ringside24
That's quite a bold Joshua vs Usyk prediction. What does Kovalev see? Perhaps we'll get an answer in the coming weeks?
Many would argue the 6′3″/191cm Usyk boasts the perfect combination of technique, speed, and power for a heavyweight who also seems to have maintained his cruiserweight quickness as he's moved up in weight. However, Usyk struggled a bit in his most recent bout against Dereck Chisora, failing to dominate as some expected and leading many to believe Usyk has vulnerabilities as a heavyweight.
Can the best version of Usyk defeat the best version of Joshua?
In February 2019, heavyweight boxer Michael Hunter, who went the distance when losing to Usyk a few years ago as a cruiserweight, shared some interesting tidbits and perspectives about a then-hypothetical Joshua vs Usyk showdown.
"I think he would beat Joshua, without a doubt. I think he would outbox him and beat him on points very easily."
Easily? Even in the UK?
"I think, even in England. This guy has a lot of experience. Even though these guys are very big, we're used to fighting big guys."
"He had two or three hundred amateur fights."
For good measure, Usyk's amateur record was 335-15.
Keep in mind, Hunter's prediction was made four months prior to Joshua's loss to Andy Ruiz, when AJ was unbeaten and considered invincible by some.
