Golovkin vs Brook prediction: Former GGG opponent keeps it real

Who will win next week's match-up of champions when the world's best middleweight faces the top-rated welterweight?

Some believe Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin's size and power will be too much for Kell Brook's speed and explosiveness while others surmise the smaller man will be big enough and strong enough on fight night to give the middleweight champion a stiff challenge.

A fellow Brit of Brook's and former Golovkin opponent, Martin Murray recently offered his Golovkin vs Brook prediction.

"It's a step too far for Kell," Muray told ESPN. "Golovkin is another level and he's in deep, deep water and I don't think he's going to be able to swim.

"I don't think Kell can go as long as I did with him. I think it goes five rounds, six maximum, and I know what it is like in there with him. It could go early."

"Golovkin really hurt me with the body shots he took me down with. I gritted my teeth and got back up but when those body shots hit you, you don't recover."

".... It was the little shots he hit me with as well, the range finding shots, and he's just on a different level."

How qualified is Martin Murray to offer such a prediction?

Last year, he almost became the first man to go all twelve rounds with the fearsome middleweight, eventually getting TKO'd by Golovkin with a mere ten seconds left in Round 11.

In that bout, Gennady unleashed his usual brutality, hurting Murray early and sending him to the canvas twice in Round 4. But Murray, whose nose bled from repeated uppercuts, was resilient.

Bloodied and battered throughout, Murray, who was said to have endured "pure hell" in training, gave a good account of himself and landed some sweet shots of his own but couldn't keep the relentless Golovkin off of him.

"Kell has got great range, distance and timing so Golovkin is going to be in with something different himself. But Golovkin's distance and timing are something else. He's in a different league to anything I've fought and Canelo [Saul Alvarez] won't touch him.
