Gennady Golovkin's trainer: “Brandon Rios will make this bout with Manny Pacquiao one heck of a fight”

Earlier this week on "The Pugilist KOrner" radio show, Gennady Golovkin's head trainer, Abel Sanchez, shared his thoughts on tonight's main event between Manny Pacquiao and Brandon Rios. Although many fight scribes and boxing fans alike have labeled the former WBO Junior Welterweight title holder as "the human punching bag", the Big Bear Lake, California based fight trainer believes that Brandon Rios does not get enough credit from his critics for his boxing prowess.

"Brandon is a much better technical fighter than most recognize," insists Abel Sanchez. "He's a very good inside fighter and a proven warrior. No matter what kind of style he's facing, Brandon is always going to be in a great fight."

Although the Oxnard, California resident is coming off of his first loss as a professional, Rios has been dominant in his ascension to boxing stardom. After receiving a disappointing draw in 2008, while fighting in the high altitude of Denver, Colorado, "Bam Bam" knocked out eleven of his next thirteen opponents; capturing two world titles in two different weight divisions along the way.

"Brandon comes into the ring with everything blazing, and he should be even stronger fighting at 147 pounds. He's obviously had weight problems in the past, and not having to cut so much weight and killing himself during the week of the fight should serve as an advantage for him."

Tonight's main event with the Filipino icon will be the 27 year old fighter's initial contest in the Welterweight division. His last two fights with Mike Alvarado were held under the Junior Welterweight limit of 140 pounds. Before 2012, the great majority of his professional campaign had been staged at 135 pounds.

"But Brandon is a warrior and is a very proficient inside fighter."
The problem he'll have in this fight is getting the opportunities to fight on the inside. I think Manny is too much of a talent for him. Not only will Brandon's warrior mentality be tested in this fight, Robert Garcia's corner work will be tested as well.

Manny will be too fast, too strong, and too sharp of a puncher for Brandon."

Although Sanchez greatly favors the eight division world champion going into Saturday night's main event, the expert trainer strongly urges every fight fan to tune in to the fight on HBO PPV.

"Whatever happens throughout the fight and however this contest plays out, the Rios/Pacquiao fight alone will be worth the price of the of the entire pay-per-view. It's going to be one heck of a fight because Brandon will make it one heck of a fight."
