Floyd Mayweather vs Amir Khan: Freddie Roach likes the Brit's chances

Amir Khan's ex trainer, Freddie Roach, believes his former pupil has the tools to beat Floyd Mayweather. Roach, who Khan replaced with Virgil Hunter in September 2012, told the Ringside Toe 2 Toe Podcast: "That's not an easy fight."

"I've always said Amir has the right style to beat Floyd if he fights correctly and doesn't stay in the pocket too long."

"I always thought he could beat him with his speed."

"I think he's faster than Mayweather and that's what it takes to beat him."

"Floyd might have his hands full on the night."

Roach also believes Khan, who was thoroughly dominating Danny Garcia before getting rocked in the third round, must not be too anxious or experience defensive lapses in the ring.

Following his stunning knockout loss to Breidis Prescott in 2008, Khan's trainer, Jorge Rubio, was replaced with Freddie Roach who guided the Brit to a world title and an 8-2 record, including wins over Paul Malignaggi, Zab Judah and Marcos Maidana.

Is Khan capable of delivering a big surprise against Mayweather? And is Freddie Roach the only world class trainer, aside from Khan’s current mentor, Virgil Hunter, who believes Khan has a legitimate shot?

Expert trainer James Gogue, one of the best minds in boxing, told FightSaga in 2012:

"Stylistically, Amir Khan will give everybody problems because of the way he fights."

"He moves a lot and he has a fast, explosive jab that in my opinion is one of the best in boxing. He also throws a very high volume of punches with speed and in combination."

"After he fires off his combinations at angles, he will move and won't there to be countered."

"Amir Khan is a very tough opponent, style-wise, for Mayweather because Floyd would be forced to change his personality in the ring."
