Vargas, of course, participated in the 2004 Summer Games in Athens and represented the US as a heavyweight.

His opponent will be Ireland's Niall Kennedy (13-0-1, 8 KO).

A National Golden Gloves Heavyweight Champion (2000, 2001), Vargas debuted in 2004 and won his first 17 bouts before being derailed by Kevin Johnson in May 2009. Since then, he's fought several top guys including Andrzej Wawrzyk (then 22-0) and Dominic Breazeale.

And in his most recent bout, the 37 year old Vargas was KO'd by current heavyweight champ Andy Ruiz Jr in March 2018.

Since the loss to Johnson, Vargas is 3-4 but boasts a stoppage win over the well-traveled Galen Brown in 2017.

“I’m just doing it right now for fun,” Vargas told Toledo Blade in 2017. “I still have something to prove to myself and others. My wife is going to have to force me to walk away from this. She’s the boss.”

“I’ve told my wife, ‘If I ever sound like I’m slurring or something, I’m done with the game,’ ” he said. “I have five kids and a beautiful wife and I’ve already had a great career.”

His opponent, 35 year old Niall Kennedy, is fresh off a TKO win of Michael Marone in March. Rated Ireland's No. 1 heavyweight, Kennedy debuted in 2015 and is ranked No. 125 of 1,295 active heavyweights.
