Creed 2: Does Rocky train Adonis?Hot
Creed 2 (or Rocky 8) will debut on Thanksgiving and there's a lot of speculation about Rocky Balboa's role in the film.
In Creed (2015), Rocky, for the first time in the series, played a supporting role, passing the torch to young Adonis Creed.
Sylvester Stallone, who reprised his role as the aging Balboa, was absolutely brilliant in playing a character that was quite a bit different from the tough guy in the previous Rocky movies and bad ass we saw in the Rambo series.
Moreover, the trainer-fighter chemistry in Creed was remarkable, rivaling the iconic relationship Rocky had with Mickey (Burgess Meredith) in the first three movies.
So, what's on tap for Creed 2?
Rumors suggest Rocky refuses to train his protege, Adonis Creed, in the new movie. Creed, of our course, will face Vicktor Drago, son of the Rocky 4 villain who mercilessly killed his father, Apollo, during the 80s.
Why do we think Balboa won't be training Adonis?
In the trailer, we see Tony “Little Duke” Evers in the background of a bunch of shots. Evers' late father, of course, trained Apollo Creed and was in the latter's corner the night he was killed.
The elder Evers was also in Rocky's corner for the latter's rematch against Clubber Lang and tookover as Rocky's chief second after Apollo's death. In fact, it was Evers Sr who guided Rocky in his revenge win over Ivan Drago.
In the first Creed, Evers Jr (or “Little Duke”) refused to train young Adonis, still haunted by that tragic night their fathers shared over 30 years ago. Perhaps sympathetic to Creed's quest for revenge and redemption, Little Duke changes his mind in Creed 2 and agrees to train Adonis for the biggest fight of his career?
What about Rocky?
No longer the macho Italian Stallion, perhaps Rocky Balboa is the wise old sage who sees the big picture clearly? Maybe he tries, unsuccessfully, to impart some wisdom on young Creed by telling him his family and health are far more important than boxing. If that's the case, it would be a twist of irony as Rocky's wife, Adrian, initially refused to support Balboa's fight in Russia against killing machine Ivan Drago over three decades prior.
"It's suicide. You've seen him, you know how strong he is. YOU CAN'T WIN!," she told the champ in Rocky 4.
"Oh, Adrian. Adrian always tells the truth. No, maybe I can't win. Maybe the only thing I can do is just take everything he's got. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me," replied a determined Rocky.
Adrian wouldn't accompany Rocky to Russia where the latter trained but would eventually join him there prior to the fight - So, don't be surprised if Rocky eventually shows up to lend his support to Adonis in a non-trainer role.
Does Rocky die in Creed 2?
Well, it could happen as his role seems to be getting phased out. Perhaps he dies after an altercation with the elder Drago just as Balboa's trainer, Mickey, died after being shoved by Rocky nemesis Clubber Lang in a pre-fight melee minutes before Balboa vs Creed 1?
Let’s not forget, Rocky was battling a serious form of cancer in the first Creed. He’ll likely be a sick man in Creed 2. And keep in mind, there was talk of Rocky fighting Drago when the movie was announced. Maybe tempers flare in a dressing room and Rocky and Drago start unleashing bombs on each other?
Perhaps Rocky will win the battle but lose the war, succumbing to the Russian’s onslaught in his compromised state.
And just as Rocky had to find the strength to endure after Mickey's death, perhaps Adonis will have to summon the heart and will to persevere after losing Rocky? And maybe, just maybe, young Adonis is forced with having to exact revenge for the death of his father AND Rocky?
