Canelo vs. Smith: Does Liam have a shot on the Dallas Cowboys roster?

While promoting his upcoming title defense against Mexican counter-puncher and heavy betting favorite, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, current WBO Super Welterweight champion Liam "Beefy" Smith took advantage of the opportunity to show off some of his skills on the home turf of "America's Team", The Dallas Cowboys.

Because the 27 year old is quite good at what the rest of the world recognizes to be "football", the reigning title holder tried his hand, or his foot to be precise, at the American version of the popular pastime by attempting an uncontested 35 yard field goal. The confident young prizefighter lined up, stepped towards the ball and kicked it straight through the goal-posts. "I went 2 for 3 today," stated Liam Smith to FightHype.com.

"The kick that made the video cut was actually my third attempt and second at 35 yards. I first tried to make one at 45 yards and missed the post by inches. But altogether I had three attempts and I made two."

When asked if Canelo attempted to kick the pigskin through the uprights, Liam admitted that the Mexican favorite possessed an entirely different but impressive skill-set on the field.

"He didn't try to kick the ball, but Canelo was throwing it like the footballers do. He launched it to me...he can throw. So I tried to throw it back, but it didn't spin. It just flipped over," confessed the Liverpool native.

In his third title defense, Smith will attempt to hand Canelo his second official defeat as a professional.

The confident Briton claims he will not let it go the judges at ringside on September 17. "I'm not going to say that I'll be looking for the knock-out, but the plan is to break him down and eventually stop him," professed the 154 pound WBO champ. "I'm not planning for this fight to go the distance."

Tickets go on sale to the general public for "Canelo vs. Smith" on Thursday, July 21. Tickets prices range from $40 to $750 with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Dallas Police Department.
