Canelo vs Khan Odds: Challenger's Khan-fidence Bad News for Alvarez?

On Cinco de Mayo weekend, lineal middleweight champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KO) will face elite-level welterweight Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KO).

Finally, after years of trying to get Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather in the ring, Amir Khan will partake in a real superfight.

After Canelo vs Khan was announced yesterday, many dismissed Khan's chances. In fact, one boxing writer suggested Gennady Golovkin vs Dominic Wade, which will take place a few weeks earlier, will be the more compelling fight.

The early odds for Canelo vs Khan have the champion at roughly -300 and the challenger at +250.

Khan is the red headed, buck-toothed stepchild of boxing and draws tremendous criticism from fans who seem to hyper focus on an early career loss to Breidis Prescott and an upset defeat to Danny Garcia, who is still undefeated, that happended nearly four years ago.

Come May 7, Khan will not be the least bit scared of Canelo. Keep in mind, for years he tried to get Tim Bradley, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao in the ring. In truth, he literally pandered to Floyd.

And yes, Khan truly believes he can beat each of them.

Perhaps there's a reason Khan was never granted the opportunity to face Bradley, Pacquiao or Floyd?

Too much risk?

If Khan were such an easy opponent, as many fans suggested, why was he side-stepped by the above stars who opted to face the likes of Chris Algieri, Robert Guerrero, Brandon Rios and Andre Berto instead?

A sure underdog against Canelo, as long as Khan isn't over-confident (as he seemingly was against Danny Garcia) expect him to surprise a lot of people.

Styles make fights and Khan, with his speed and athleticism, will give everybody problems because of the way he fights.

Combine that with his supreme confidence and longtime desire and hunger for a big fight, and Canelo should have his hands full in May.
