Expect an interesting weekend in boxing.

No,it won't be on fire with stars such as Canelo Alvarez, Anthony Joshua and Gennady Golovkin; but this weekend, and October in general, looks quality nonetheless.

On Saturday, we'll see top flight welterweight contender Jessie Vargas and undefeated IBF light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev as well as surging heavyweights Jarrell Miller and Darmani Rock.

In 2012, FightSaga told readers Gennady Golovkin was boxing's best kept secret and he has proven to be every bit the exciting, elite-level star many of us thought he would be.

So, who is boxing's new best kept secret in 2018? We have a list, and a light heavyweight fighting Saturday is certainly one of them.

A secret to the mainstream and casual fans but well-known and well-respected by boxing’s hardcore junkies, Artur Beterbiev (12-0, 12 KO) is the most underrated, most avoided champion in the sport,

"Boxers want huge compensation to fight me and that has limited my opportunities," Beterbiev told FightSaga in June 2017.

"The problem has been in securing fights."

Boasting an amateur pedigree that rival's Vasyl Lomachenko's, Beterbiev won multiple tournaments, defeated superstar Sergey Kovalev at the semi-finals of the 2007 Russian Championships and represented Russia at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics as a light heavyweight.

Having turned pro in 2013, the 33 year old, 5'11½" IBF light heavyweight champion is an aggressive, fan-friendly fighter with a killer instinct who possesses excellent punching power and awesome technical prowess.

"With Beterbiev, they went two times through the whole ratings before somebody said yes,” Marc Ramsey, his trainer, told “The IBF had to re-organize the ratings after the first 15 guys said no."

"Callum Johnson stepped up and said, ‘Yes, I’m gonna fight Beterbiev.’ I have a lot of respect for the guy. He’s a tough guy, but at the end of the day I think maybe it’s too [soon] for him. Beterbiev is something special.”

Will Artur Beterbiev become boxing's newest star?

Upset brewing in the heavyweight division?
Earlier today, red hot heavyweight contender Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller weighed-in at 317 lbs, some 30 lbs heavier than he was for his most recent fight in April.

At 290, Miller moves well for a man that large and has good pop in his punch. Moreover, despite his aggression, Jarrell picks his shots well and is adept at throwing a wide variety of punches from angles.

He's fun to watch because he's a colorful fighter offensively and quite sound defensively, and fans aren't accustomed to seeing a man that big with so many nuances.

However, will the added weight be a factor against seasoned veteran Tomasz Adamek?

And is Miller's weight a result of his conditioning (or lack thereof)?

Sure, Adamek is 41 but the Pole is on a 3-fight win streak, boasts tremendous experience and has shared the ring with the likes of Vitali Klitschko, Chris Arreola, Eddie Chambers, Dominick Guinn, Steve Cunningham, Johnathon Banks, Chad Dawson and Andrew Golota.

Adamek, a former world light heavyweight and cruiserweight champion, was a top 5 heavyweight contender 7 years ago and is poised and hungry. He'd love nothing more than to defeat Miller and set himself up for a big money showdown with one of the powerbrokers in the division.

Look for the durable Adamek to try to use his finesse to outwork the favored Miller and take the latter into deep waters. If this fight gets past 7, it'll be interesting to see how things play out as some suspect the 317 pounder to gas early.
