On Friday, October 24, former WBA "Regular" Heavyweight Champion Alexander Povetkin (28-1, 20 KOs) starched number five ranked Heavyweight contender Carlos Takam (30-2-1, 23 KOs) at the Luzhniki Concert Hall in Russia's capital city of Moscow.

The impressive "Coup de Grace" was delivered by way of a crushing, compact left hook from the local favorite at the 2:10 mark of the tenth round. As soon as Takam's head violently crashed to the canvas, renowned referee Kenny Bayless immediately and appropriately called a halt to the contest.

The official time of stoppage was 53 seconds into round number ten.

Although the highly touted contender from Cameroon showed a lot of mental and physical toughness throughout the entertaining Heavyweight scrap, the Russian native proved to be too much for Carlos Takam, viciously dropping the visiting fighter in the previous stanza as well.

The newly crowned WBC Silver Heavyweight title holder now puts himself in position to eventually compete for the WBC Heavyweight Championship, which is currently being held by knock-out artist Bermane Stiverne of Haiti.

Because the World Boxing Council has already named two mandatory challengers for Bermane's distinction, in Deontay Wilder and Bryant Jennings, it's difficult to say whether or not Povetkin will decide to wait patiently in line behind the two American contenders, or move towards a rematch with universally recognized Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko in 2015.

"Sasha" initially fought Dr. Steelhammer on October 5, 2013, in what proved to be a dreadful fight full of clinches and throw downs en route to a lopsided decision loss to the younger Klitschko.

Regardless of what direction the hard punching Olympic Gold medalist decides to take, Alexander Povetkin proved once again that he's still a force to be reckoned with in the Heavyweight division.
