On April 1, Adrien Broner (31-2, 23 KO) will face Ashley Theophane (39-6-1, 11 KO) at the D.C. Armory in Washington, DC.

Broner vs Theophane will be presented by Premier Boxing Champions and aired on SPIKE TV, and Adrien's WBA jr welterweight title will be at stake.

The bout may also serve as an opportunity for Broner to generate some much-needed buzz thanks to the bit of drama surrounding this fight.

Theophane's promoter and Broner's former BFF, Floyd Mayweather, is predicting an upset for his fighter.

He [Theophane] is a solid competitor," Floyd Mayweather recently told FightHype.

"Adrien Broner must know, Ashley will not lay down. If he goes down, he will get right back up and fight."

"He has heart, boxing skills, he applies great pressure on fighters, and he [has] the will to win."

Given Mayweather has taken special interest in this bout, handing Floyd's fighter his first knockout loss in 46 fights might be just what the doctor ordered for Adrien who has had a falling out of sorts with Floyd.

Conversely, the underdog stands to benefit greatly should he orchestrate the upset.

Despite his fine record, the flamboyant Broner's has stock nose-dived hard since his December 2013 loss to Marcos Maidana. Once billed as boxing's next big star, Adrien Broner is just another relatively high-profile contender today.

Brash, boisterous, creative and controversial, the flashy fella from Cincinnati steamrolled solid opposition, often making it look so effortless.

But that version of the 26 year old Broner is a far cry from what fans have witnessed since December 2013.

Last year, Broner appeared tentative in defeating John Molina before dropping a wide unanimous decision to Ohio rival Shawn Porter in their welterweight clash on June 20. However, four months later Adrien would return as a jr welterweight, soundly defeating Khabib Allakhverdiev.

Will Adrien Broner thrust himself in the spotlight again by emphatically quieting Ashley Theophane - and Floyd Mayweather - on April 1?
