Newly-crowned undisputed heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe and top contender Lennox Lewis engage in trash talk immediately after the former lifted the title from Evander Holyfield.
Date: November 13, 1992

Titles: RING/Lineal, WBC, WBA & IBF
Minutes after defeating Evander Holyfield to win the undisputed heavyweight title, Riddick Bowe had some choice words for then No. 1 contender Lennox Lewis.
Lewis, fresh off his win over Razor Ruddock two weeks prior, was universally regarded as the top contender and the winner of Holyfield vs Bowe, according to HBO, was supposed to fight the Brit.
Although fisticuffs nearly broke out during this legendary altercation, Lennox Lewis and Riddick Bowe never met in the ring thanks to the reluctance of Team Bowe.
A month after this epic smack session, Bowe, instead of agreeing to defend his titles against Lewis, vacated the WBC title, which was then awarded to Lennox Lewis, its No. 1 contender. (Bowe remained the RING/lineal, WBA/IBF Heavyweight Champion)
“The WBC is wrong, and I will not be intimidated by them,” Bowe said.
Lennox Lewis vs Riddick Bowe was THE FIGHT everyone wanted to see from late 1992 to late 1993; It was the ‘Mayweather vs Pacquiao’ of that time.
Why did Bowe avoid Lewis? It was likely a business decision as Riddick’s handlers probably deemed Lewis too much risk for the reward at the time. Keep in mind, Lewis defeated Bowe in the 1988 Summer Olympics four years prior.
