Sanchez vs Aguilera will take place on the Canelo vs Saunders undercard on May 8.

Trained by Eddy Reynoso (Canelo's mentor), Frank Sanchez is a rising heavyweight who is hoping to become the first Cuban heavyweight champion. His opponent, Nagy Aguilera, is a tough journeyman who has faced the likes of Chris Arreola, Dominic Breazeale, Tomasz Adamek, Gerald Washington, Antonio Tarver, Sam Peter, Maurice Harris and Oleg Maskaev.

Aguilera has certainly faced better opposition but will be the underdog on May 8. And although he's dropped 10 fights, he'd been stopped inside the distance just three times.  Will Sanchez, who is ranked in the top 15 in the heavyweight division by 3 of the 4 sanctioning bodies, be able to record a KO against the durable, experienced Aguilera?

Stats and Facts

  • Sanchez will enter as BoxRec's No. 25 heavyweight and Nos. 6, 12 and 14 in the division by the WBO, WBA and WBC
  • Sanchez will also enter as BoxRec's No. 2 Cuban heavyweight (Luis Ortiz)
  • Since his TKO loss to Sergiej Werwejko in Sep 2017, Nagy has had just one fight.
