  • During the mid-rounds, the bigger, stronger Bowe was able to lure Holyfield into toe-toe exchanges, often getting the better of the champion.

  • At long range, Riddick worked behind a quick, educated left jab to pile up points and discombobulate Evander. And at short range, Bowe unleashed hard uppercuts that frequently stunned the champion.

  • Landscape: The expectation was the winner would face Lewis, as Bowe vs Lewis quickly became the most sought-after match-up in boxing. However, Team Bowe wasn’t comfortable facing Lewis and Riddick relinquished his WBC belt as a result.

  • Bowe would remain active, earning a first-round KO of Michael Dokes just three months later and a second-round KO of Jesse Ferguson three months after the Dokes fight.

  • After Holyfield vs Bowe, Evander all but announced his retirement, insisting he ‘didn’t even want to see another boxing glove’ but would return 8 months later to outpoint Alex Stewart

  • On November 6, 1993, 51 weeks after Holyfield vs Bowe, Evander regained the WBA and IBF titles by defeating Bowe in their first rematch via majority decision.
