After the bout, HBO's longtime commentator Larry Merchant (then 66) repels a seemingly much younger, rude Wayne McCullough fan who interrupts the former's live interview with Daniel Zaragosa.
Showcasing the strength and instincts of a young champion, Merchant took matters in his own hands by physically tossing aside the unruly intruder.Needless to say, fans have thought twice before cutting-in on Merchant's interviews going forward.
Merchant, who joined HBO Sports as an analyst in 1978, was previously a well-respected sports columnist with The Philadelphia Daily News and a general reporter for The New York Post. Considered "the greatest television boxing analyst of all time" by ESPN Boxing analyst Dan Rafael, Larry may also be one of the toughest, as evidenced in the video.
After serving 35 years with HBO, Merchant retired from broadcasting following the December 15, 2012 telecast of HBO's World Championship Boxing.
