Alexander vs Maidana Facts & Stats
  • Devon Alexander 22-1 (13 KOs) vs. Marcos Maidana 31-2 (28 KOs)

  • Maidana entered was a 1.5 to 1 underdog

  • Some would argue when a fighter clinches and holds as often as Alexander did, it takes away from fight, stiffling an opponent's ability to let his hands go.

  • Keep in mind, holding is, technically, a foul. The rule states: You cannot hit below the belt, trip, hold, kick, headbutt, wrestle, bite, spit on, or push your opponent.
  • While penalties for occassional holding are not often enforced, many insist "excessive" holding should warrant point deductions and an eventual disqualification should it continue.

  • The video below calculates 119 clinches in a 10 round affair; an average of 12 clinches per round and one clinch every 15 seconds.

  • Excessive?
