Adam Kownacki: Heavyweight riser to fight on Spence vs Peterson undercard

Written by

Polish-born heavyweight Adam Kownacki (16-0, 13 KO) will face Iago Kiladze (26-1, 18 KO) on January 20 on the undercard of Errol Spence vs Lamont Peterson in Brooklyn.

Kownacki, of course, thrusted into prominence by knocking out Artur Szpilka (then 20-2) last July.

Prior to defeating Artur, Kownacki beat Joshua Tufte (then 19- 1), Jesse Barboza (then 11-1-1) and Danny Kelly (then 9-1-1).

BoxRec Rankings as of 12/20/17
Kownacki is No. 4 in the US and 11 overall
Kiladze is No. 1 in Georgia and 70 overall

So, who is Iago Kiladze?

At 26-1, he has an impressive record for a strong B-side.

Iago, who made his pro debut in 2007, has yet to fight a 'name' opponent but his most recent foe, Pedro Rodriguez, boasted a 23-2 record entering the fight. Iago won that fight via stoppage.

Kownacki - 28
Kiladze - 31

Interestingly, in May 2008 he defeated a fella who was 1-30. His only loss came via TKO to Youri Kayembre Kalenga (then 15-0) in 2013. Since then, Iago is 6-0, 5 KO.

The winner of Kownacki vs Kiladze probably won't break The RING top 10 but will certainly be knocking on the door.
