Breazeale vs Molina purses: Payout may surprise fans

Written by

From the Barclays Center in New York City, Heavyweights will be the primary focus in what should prove to be a very entertaining fight card, presented by Showtime Sports, DiBella Entertainment, Tom Brown Promotions and Don King Productions.

Although current WBC Heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder and mandatory title challenger Bermane Stiverne will close the show in a scheduled twelve round contest, the WBC eliminator between Dominic Breazeale (18-1, 16 KOs) and Eric Molina (26-4, 19 KOs) may very well prove to be the most entertaining and competitive bout of the evening.

Because the eventual winner may go on to face the victor of this evening's main event, both fighters are being compensated well for their efforts in the ring.

Breazeale vs. Molina purses
Dominic Breazeale, managed by Al Haymon, will earn a whopping $250K, while Eric Molina, promoted by Don King, will make $90K for his opportunity to move on in the WBC's mini heavyweight tournament.

Because the two unheralded contenders are largely viewed as the "bridesmaids" of the division, after falling short in each of their respective world title opportunities, Breazeale and Molina have much to prove in this true "crossroads" bout. With excellent KO ratios for both combatants, and everything to gain for tonight's winner, fight fans could be treated to a big Heavyweight shoot-out in this evening's preliminary contests.

Here are the purses for the other televised match-ups on Showtime Championship Boxing:

  • Main Event: Deontay Wilder $1.4 million vs. Bermane Stiverne $506,250
  • Co Main Event: Shawn Porter $500k vs. Adrian Granados $200k
  • IBF 140 pound special feature: Sergei Lipinets $75k vs. Akihiro Kondo $15k

The action is slated to air on Showtime Sports with a start time of 9PM ET.
