Boxing schedule (on TV) | August 2017

Written by

Tonight, boxing phenom and WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko returns to the ring to face Miguel Marriaga at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

How good is Lomachenko?

A two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, he boasted a magnificent record of 396-1, with his only loss avenged twice. In fact, he's considered the best amateur ever by many.

Yes, even better than amateur versions of Teofilo Stevenson, Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard.

And now, many consider him the best fighter in the world today. Will Lomachenko become the next Floyd Mayweather? Will he be better?

His promoter, Bob Arum, who considers Vasyl the best pro boxer since the great Ali, recently said on ESPN’s 'First Take:'

“Now Floyd Mayweather’s a great, great defensive fighter – there’s no doubt about it."

“But Floyd is content to win fights by out-scoring an opponent, scoring more punches than the opponent hits him with and wins on points. Now Lomachenko closes the show."

"You can’t hit him because his distance is so good, his footwork is so good. But he’s always looking for ways to destroy the opponent and he always does."

Lomachenko doesn't step, he glides. He fights like he's on ice skates. Yes, his footwork is that good.

“So I look at Lomachenko as the best that I’ve seen," Arum added.

Let's hope we’ll be treated to Lomachenko vs Mikey Garcia, Jorge Linares, Guillermo Rigondeaux or Gervonta Davis sometime within the year.
