Wladimir Klitschko: Next fight against Shannon Briggs?

Written by

Despite losing to IBF Heavyweight Champion Anthony Joshua last night, fight legend Wladimir Klitschko's stock rises.

Not only was it one best performances in his career, the fight was one of the greatest in heavyweight title history.

So who will Wladimir Klitschko fight next?

Will he capitalize on his high market value? Will he face Anthony Joshua in a rematch? Will he retire?

Enter Shannon Briggs, a former heavyweight belt-holder and lineal heavyweight champion.

The charismatic 45 year old Briggs faces Fres Oquendo on June 3. At stake will be the WBA regular version of the heavyweight strap. Hence, the winner will own a major world title.

Briggs, of course, stalked and publicly taunted Wladimir in 2014 and 2015 hoping to generate enough buzz to create the groundswell for a potential Klitschko vs Briggs showdown. And while they didn't get him a title shot, his zany antics worked.

in a December 2015 poll taken by German media giant BILD, 72 percent of those questioned chose Shannon Briggs as their desired next opponent for then-heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.

Should Briggs win the WBA title, will Klitschko close his career by facing Shannon in Germany in a farewell fight?

Briggs is popular in Germany and England so a Klitschko vs Briggs showdown would certainly garner a lot of interest, and would give Wladamir a chance to leave the sport as a belt-holder.

Of course, Mr. Briggs would have other ideas.
